A SURPRISING Tip for Using Chalk Paint 🤔

If you’re into the furniture and DIY world, I’m willing to bet you’ve heard of chalk paint before. Chalk paint is exactly what it says it is: paint with chalk as a part of the formula. The added chalk helps with paint adhesion, thickens the paint, and makes it very easy to customize your piece with different waxes, meaning it’s great for paint effects. It’s also easy to distress, creating a look that is rustic and worn, a look that’s especially desirable in certain regions like the South.

In my opinion, because of the nature of how chalk paint is made, it’s just a bit too thick, slightly chunky, and liable to show brushmarks like crazy. Generally, I hate brushmarks on furniture and I’ll do whatever I can to avoid them. I tend to prefer a sleeker, more modern look. So, to remedy this, take your chalk paint and grab a blender from a thrift store. You can also use your home blender— chalk paint isn't toxic like other paints and cleans with soap and water very easily. Add your chalk paint and about 10 or 15% water to thin the paint. Run the blender on a medium setting for about 10-15 seconds, or until you’ve broken up any chunks that my have formed from the chalk and blended the water into the paint uniformly. Now, just paint your piece as you normally would! Be sure to use a quality brush and paint in one direction.

You'll get a way better finish with very few or no brush marks, and you’ll love the result! Trust me!!

If you try this trick, let me know how it went and send some pics! I love seeing Before & Afters :)
