Hepplewhite Sideboard by White Furniture Co. — Customizable Finish

A generous 68" sideboard in the Hepplewhite manner: serpentine front, flame-mahogany veneers, oval panels outlined in light stringing, a dentil-inlaid apron, and slender square tapered legs ending in spade feet. A bowed center drawer flanked by two deep cabinet bays — the layout George Hepplewhite popularized in the 1780s, when the sideboard replaced the simple serving table and gave the dining room its most architectural piece of furniture. Original brass ring pulls.

The maker White Furniture Company was founded in Mebane, North Carolina in 1881 by brothers Will and Dave White, and became one of the most respected names in American furniture. The company furnished housing for the engineers building the Panama Canal in 1906 — the first major federal furniture contract awarded to a Southern factory — and took "Best Manufacturer of American Furniture" at the Jamestown Exposition the following year. Their trademark said it plainly: The White Line Guarantees Satisfaction. Through the first half of the 20th century their dining suites were careful reproductions of Hepplewhite, Sheraton, and Chippendale designs, which is where this piece belongs. The Mebane plant closed in the early 1990s after more than a century of production, and surviving White pieces are increasingly collected for the build quality that made the name.

Finish — customizable, made to order This one is a paint-and-lacquer piece. The top and case have some gouges, scratches, and veneer wear that stain would only magnify, so we will finish it in a solid color:

• Painted — satin, matte, or semi-gloss

• High-gloss lacquer, off the gun — sprayed and left as it lays down, with the soft depth and slight movement of a true sprayed lacquer

• Mirror high-gloss — the same lacquer taken through our polishing process: sanded and 3 step polishing, for a flat, reflective, mirror-like surface

Everything is sprayed in our shop: no brush marks, no roller texture, just a clean even surface edge to edge. Send us a color code or fan-deck name (Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, Farrow & Ball) and we'll spray to match — any color. Interior of cabinets and back of piece included.

Condition Structurally sound and standing square. Wear consistent with age: gouges and scratches to the top, minor veneer losses and lifting, small splits to the right door panel. All addressed in our prep and finishing process. Shown in as-found condition — the piece ships in your selected finish.
